I got a new book on #drawing foliage! I’ve mostly been trying to get better at drawing #trees and #bushes.
This #book is good for seeing the phases that go into a drawing. But it doesn’t have any accompanying text, so you Really need to study each phase and play with it #art
An attempt at drawing a branch of a white pine tree, as demonstrated in my new book. The first thing I’ve learned from this book is to build the branch or tree in short lines, not taking long strokes. The short lines give you room to add notches and more organic shapes. Draw 50 Flowers, Trees and Other Plants by Lee J. Ames. I’d say this book is not really the best for beginners, as the progressions have no explanation as to the thinking. So I think to use this book to retain new practices will be tough.

The old world was built on violence and denial. The new world is crying out for empathy and honesty. We are currently straddling both worlds. We feel the urge to be emotionally awake, but it’s hard to go against the steeple. To this I say, it’s much easier, once you find your people.

Early stage fine liner drawing of a cow fish, swimming from left to right across the page. With only the outlines in place, I would likely use this as a guide to recreate digitally sometime. Phase 2 of the cow fish with partial patterns in place on the belly and extremities. I paused here for a day to decide on the best thing to do next. Phase 3 all of the fine liner markers are in place. The last shot before I started adding in colours. The cow fish is now coloured in mostly yellows and oranges with alcohol markers. I always envisioned it to have a darker blue background to help make the fish colours more vivid.

I’ve been built to fear my mind. I get the urge to go, but the thought of the enormity, makes me wobble and I get lost as I procrastinate. I want to try everything and give it all a go. But the urge to try then leaves me behind. It’s far more comforting to sit scrolling on my phone. We must break this mode. Forgo reaching for instant gratification and get comfortable being uncomfortable to pursue a greater goal. They say comparison is the thief of joy. But like many good quotes, I’ve found it’s far easier to recite than to live by. But I say, these are tools. They can be utilised. Get inspired. Get fired up. Comparison is a benchmark. But there’s a time and place. Being raw and exposed is a scary place, but you are now alive.

My first go at a mandala drawing which was great fun to do! I decided to add colour which I recall was terrifying at the time! I love this piece as it reminds me to be bold! This porch-way of a wooden cabin was the first drawing I did after I got a new book on perspectives. This was done with fine line pen and grey markers for shading. This drawing of a Greek Ionic Temple in Athens was another drawing I did after I read a book on How To Read Buildings. I recall learning about how the columns design style have sets of rules and the same rules can still be seen being applied in skyscraper architecture.

This is something I was playing with in January. I was inspired by an artist using blue for shadows.
My initial building ended up with some Spanish vibes, so I added a Spanish style church with it too.
Then I felt that the perspective was a little bit off, so I added a cliff 😅
