Personal #loss of a close loved one can obliterate interest in anything outside of your immediate circle of life. That type of grief can be so shattering that it can cause you to wonder why people who are dealing with grief over losses less central to their very soul struggle.

When you have lost events, dreams, people, ways of life, ideals, or anything else that’s important to you, the #emotions of longing for what you’re missing can be intense. Even if what you’ve lost is irreplaceable, longing for what you’re missing is a much-needed emotion.

Naming that you don’t know what to say [to someone grieving] or do, naming that obvious (that the situation is awful), or naming that you’re open to following their lead —all while being open and present — are all better options than saying nothing.
