Teaching Tana. Exploring how we'll use technology to augment our cognition and use it for progress.
"Intelligent Problem-Solvers Externalize Cognitive Operations" – a great paper from 2019 in Nature Human Behaviour (link at end of the thread)

I think this paper is really relevant to what impact AI already has on how we do knowledge work.

Using AI in @tana_inc to get the topics from a quote automatically basically turns it into a SELF ASSEMBLING Zettelkasten.
Few appreciate how powerful is.

It's been two years (what?!?! time flies...) since my Tana Fundamentals series – and so it's time for a big update.

Wait, @bsky.app does not track views at all? Is this right?

Currently trying to figure out how this maps to/will map to AI and knowledge work

I've been reading a lot of Extended Mind Theory and also Doug Englebart et al recently, trying to figure out what testable implications fall out of it.

I feel there's some gold there, but I gotta keep digging.

@jay.bsky.team you know what would be cool?
When I'm looking at the followers of someone to have a way to see the last three of their posts. Right now it's really hard to judge whether I want to follow someone, because all I see is their handle.

So everybody is here now, huh?
November 21, 2024 at 6:32 AM
Is there any app that lets one schedule posts for posting on here?

@lukeburgis.bsky.social Today I was on a "Celebrity Homes Tour" in LA - it was _fascinating_ to observe my internal discourse on the backdrop of having read "Wanting".

Makes me think you should offer such a tour plus a copy of Wanting 😁

@jay.bsky.team My invite code doesn't seem to work - anything I can do to fix that? (Trying to invite Luke Burgis, author of "Wanting")

If you have been wanting to try @tana.inc , and been on the waitlist, join the Slack, introduce yourself, and get an invite. We'll be releasing some pretty awesome stuff over the next little while, so this is not a bad time to join :)

Second-order effects dominate the history of technology!

This is, imho, one of the most important but underrated and hard-to-grapple-with facts about technology development. Wrote a short piece about it here:

Here's an example of what I'd love to see bluesky optimize for: good faith actors helping people very quickly navigate the social graph to the people who are open to helping them accomplish their goals because of the intro chain.

Learned a new term today ( @orpheas.bsky.social posted this on the bird site)
Very useful term: reachback

One thing that is very fascinating to observe in myself is that I can't record videos before 11am.

I usually get up at 6-7:30, and apparently my brain needs about four to five hours of warm-up time before I can be "on" and present things.

Interesting!

@jay.bsky.team Any way for me to get a couple of invitations for the PKM folks I hang out with?

Who are the small teams that are waaayyy more successful than they should be?

That aren't stacked with 10x engineers and still run circles around the competition?

It's over ten years ago that I saw Fernand Cormon's "Caïn" at the Museé d'Orsay in Paris.

It's huge - 7m x 3.8m. And standing before it you're overwhelmed by the desolation and hopelessness of the picture.

That feeling...that's what we need to fight against.

Areas and Goals in Tana

Let me show you how easy (yet powerful) it is to implement areas and connect them to goals in Tana. If you're looking to implement Tiago Forte's PARA in Tana, this thread is for you:

Man it feels SO WEIRD how far away high school is.

Like I vividly remember swearing that "I'll never forget how it was" - and I won't!

But I have a sense that being a teenger is just _so different_ compared to 15-20 years ago...I'm not sure it matters if I remember.
Why not both? 😁

In Latin class in high school we had at least two occasions I vividly recall where we had to give speeches (prob after Cicero or sth).

A friend gave an epic one on squirrels, and then the next year on the civilizational necessity to shave your pubes. Was a riot.

What do y'all do to find and select the right models (in the Girardian sense) and surrounding yourself with them?

How heavily do you edit your life for this?

Trying to write a thread about how my brain feels like that of Taravangian in the Stormlight Archive – and not on one of his great days.

Total molasses up in the gray goo, super annoying.

Taravangian is such a fascinating character too.
