In the spring of 1909 a series of startling events in #Cornwall became front page news across the British Isles. The newspapers reported that a ‘madman’ had shot four people and had barricaded himself into his home in St Blazey.

It explores life in Georgian #Cornwall, particularly visitor's impressions of Penzance and is another fine example of Dr Mackenzie's extensive knowledge of the period.

The smuggler Squire Avery built this little building as a lookout and a hideout in the early 1800s.
When this notorious character died in 1858 local people reported a strange light in the sky . . .
