My studio assistant since August Annika leaves today heading back to Argentina and we got up early this morning to complete a portrait sketch of her I started as a teaching demo months ago. We ran out of time, but it's still a momento of our time together.

This is a little meditation on space and time and our smallness in the great scheme of things. The perspective makes the astronaut seem a little larger than the pear, while enormous dinosaurs roam the extended space-time background.

I gave a painting materials workshop at the RHA School yesterday. We made paint, discussed pigments, oils, additives, brushes, palettes, health and safety and much else. Thanks to my students for keeping me on my toes and asking so many questions!

My #culturenight contribution this year - a portrait painting marathon - got on the six o'clock news. Good gymnastics for a painter, an opportunity to meet lots of people, involve them in what I do and give back to my local community.
