The rain really hasn’t stopped in Langholm ☔️💧

A perfect time to see how our new wetland and peatland sites are standing up to the ongoing deluge.

Lots of new pools in blocked ditches, sphagnum moss colonising and wetland ponds full!

Tax reform on landholdings is desperately needed. We need to bring poorly managed and owned land in urban and rural Scotland back into productive use for public benefit. This must be dealt with in the next parliament. Clear, strong arguments from @ross-greer.bsky.social during LR Bill debate tonight

Important amendments from @ariane-burgess.bsky.social and Mercedes Villalba being voted on in Parliament tonight. They would ensure public oversight over significant land transfers and set a presumed limit on landownership at 500ha unless owned for wider public benefit. Much needed interventions
🏛️ The Land Reform Bill is being debated in Parliament right now.
Scotland’s land is hoarded - 50% of it owned by less than 1% of people. One of the worst statistics in Europe.
My amendment sets a 500-hectare ceiling, giving ministers power to stop land sales to those who already own vast estates.

Some beautiful shots of resident Lakeland Fell ponies Stan, Dan and Paddy. They have been really thriving on the rough hill pastures on Tarras Valley and doing a fantastic job helping to regenerate the grassland habitats!
