Catholic priest (RCWP). Fierce for repro rights + co-conspiring to uproot systems of oppression. Focused on the intersection of religion & public health at BUSPH OLMPH. If I’m not hyper-focusing, I’m probably on a side quest or sky gazing. She/her.

I preached this last year, but it might as well have been yesterday.

Lizard brain thinking has taken command of our world. Our only hope is to take it back, one breath, one friendship, one outstretched hand at a time.
Self-care and community care in times of trauma
This is about learning and practicing models of mutual care to help us better cope and navigate the pain-stricken world we are living in.

Last weekend I preached in solidarity with the #CatholicWomenStrike, reminding myself (and maybe you, too) that lavish, collective love is our best antidote to quiet cruelty, especially the cruelty within.

I'm voting NO on the Republican shutdown bill.

NO on handing Donald Trump and Elon Musk a blank check to spend your taxpayer money however they want.

NO on cutting funding that helps families put food on the table and crack down on wealthy tax cheats.

We need to push back.

Medicaid is on the chopping block today. Call your House Rep in the next few hours and tell them to oppose Medicaid cuts. Health care for 83 Million low income and disabled Americans, including nearly 40% of US children, is at stake.

Hoosier families are not ok. This article states one of the justifications for rolling back child labor laws is “parental rights.” Parental rights to what? To force kids to work? Note the U.S. is the only UN member who hasn’t ratified the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Changes to Indiana law since 2019 include:
-Eliminating teen work permits
-Removing rest break requirements for minors
-Exempting businesses employing fewer than five teens from registering them with the state
-Ending citations for brief violations of work hour restrictions
And more.

Human beings deserve human rights.

All of them.

Even ones whose governments and/or representative bodies commit atrocities.

Even ones who--yes-- commit atrocities themselves.

You don't lose your right to human rights, ever.

That's why they're called inalienable human rights.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO
