Took a walk thru Hamiltonhill Claypits early morning and it was nice to bump into @kazfaethehill.bsky.social & Craig.
Highlights : Raven over calling and Kaz had brief views of a Water Rail.
I managed my first ever pic of a Lesser Redpoll (Baird Brae) Shame about the branch!

My first Parasitoid Wasp of the year...and i can guarantee it won't be the last.
Very much par for the course when you rear caterpillars/larvae collected in the wild.

This Kingfisher (1 of 3 seen) along the F&C Canal at Knightswood stayed still long enough for me to get this shot...and thankfully it was in a sunny spot.

#fox numbers are still well down on previous winters. These are the only ones i saw in the 6 miles walked from Clydebank > Maryhill.

Had a pleasant walk from Clydebank > Maryhill. Here's what was on offer first ;
Black-headed Gull : coming into breeding plumage (Clydebank Shopping Centre)
Cormorant : the white specks on the head & nape show this bird is coming into breeding plumage too (Whitecrook)

My first Hawthorn Shieldbug of the year. Found under an outside light on the side of McDonalds, Maryhill. That'll be another exterior light source to check in future.

Zygiella sp (probably x-notata) quite a large female found on one of the supports of Stockingfield Bridge, F&C Canal.

It was brutal this morning with black ice covering every hard surface and the only highlight was a Water Rail calling from the reedbed by the boardwalk, Panmure Gate.

Found this small (body c4.5 mm in length) Harvestman under some discarded timber on Lochburn Rd. I thought it was one of the Oligolophus sp but i'm not sure.

3 of 5 #foxes seen on my walk back from Clydebank.
The first one appears to be blind in its right eye 😔

The Kelvin Walkway produced several tenanted (with puparia) leafmines of Dizygomyza luzulae/silvatica, on Great Wood-rush. Both these species are grade 5 and require rearing with male gen detting to ascertain the id.

Surprised to see the flower buds starting to appear on a Goat Willow, on Lochburn Rd. Quite a few things seem to be a bit topsy turvy lately!

The last few steps of my walk produced my first Moth species of the year : Light Brown Apple Moth.
The feeding signs on the lower of 2 stuck together Bramble leaves caught my eye and peeling them apart revealed the caterpillar.
