A dad who's been modding and making games since the 90s. I've made apps and games for some huge companies but I won't be talking about that here. This place is purely for my poorly thought out personal projects. Also motorcycles!
Sierra Gold was envisioned for mobile. I've since been part of a team who launched a successful mobile game. I've learned that if you aren't making a "free to play" title you will fail. Sierra Gold is transitioning to desktop and a lot of the decisions I made are biting me in the ass.

I've been working a lot on my title screen and I think it's looking great! God rays need some work and I'd like to add a bit more life to it, but overall, very pleased!

It's coming along slowly but steadily. Top is editor view so you can see whats happening. Bottom is game view. I'm still working on the cameras and such to make this cohesive, but you get the idea. Needs easing on everything. Left the [Dev] menu on in the bg.

Sorry for the long absence! My day job has been sucking away my motivation. This contraption is finally in the game though! Still need to finalize the textures and animations, but I'm moving ahead with puzzle logic in the meantime.

Work has been insane lately. I haven't had the energy to work on my game much at night. I did finally start modeling the last missing puzzle though. It's incomplete, and needs to be relaxed a bit.

I finally added telemetry to Sierra Gold so I can keep track of how often things are done in the game. I'm now tracking basically everything a player can do including how many input taps the player made and how far the character has walked.

Rear's back on and now the forks are off for service. The intake valves are pretty tight. No wonder it was hard to start the last few rides. Gonna tackle that this weekend.

Swingarm has new bearings. All the other linkage components were ok and have been cleaned and repacked. I need to get the rear brake and wheel back on to finish the rear. Next up, the forks are getting new seals and the intake valves are getting adjusted.

American Father's Day is cool. But German Father's day involves walking through the woods pulling a wagon of beer behind you. When you get back there's bratwurst waiting.

You know you're in for a treat when your swing arm bearings come out as mostly dust. I'm pretty sure these are original. Removing the siezed race was surprisingly easy though. Good soak with WD40, and 2 sockets, with some threaded rod did the job.

Back from my Germany trip! I ended up doing some dev on a few rainy days and on the plane ride home. Sierra Gold has a new intro now! The entire context of the game changed invalidating the old one. No biggie, I never liked it anyway.

Germans know their beer. I really really enjoy it when I'm here. But for my birthday my brother gave me a pack of American beer (Labeled as such) brewed by their local brewery.

It's awful

Leave the IPAs and stouts to Americans and keep doing what you do best German brewers.

No dev updates because I'm visiting family in Germany. One thing I like to do here is hike to old ruins. My German family members don't understand why I would want to trek through the underbrush to find what is essentially a pile of rubble covered with moss. That's fine because I get me time!

I love my MacBook Pro M3 Max but baking lightmaps is pure misery.

Apple makes nice hardware but their graphics chips are simply not up to high stress workloads. My old PC laptop with a 3080 could bake the same scene in less than an hour. The M3 needs all night.

There's an item needing a puzzle in Sierra Gold. It's bothed me for months. I finally figured out what I want to do, but I'm going to Europe for 3 weeks for a family visit and will have no time for game dev. This is going to be burning a hole in my brain.

Introduced a hat mechanic.
Made several hats including a mining helmet with a light. Got the idea to use that light to navigate at night. Nighttime uses a different mechanic for navigating.
Am now redoing that mechanic.

This is how games don't get finished...

And that's a riding season (for me anyway)! This bike has exceeded my expectations. Coming from 2 strokes I never expected to enjoy a 450 on trails so much but here we are. Now it's time to strip her down for a suspension rebuild and go through the motor.

I was an artist and designer before I learned how to code. That means whenever I get an idea I usually make the art before writing any code to support it. Smart people say to use primitives until you get it working but I just can't.

That means I'm making hats tonight.

My old Kawasaki ZZR600. I took this picture way back in 2007! No smartphones yet. Who else had a magnetic tank bag with a clear sleeve on top for a paper map? I was on my way to Yosemite and all my clothes were in a backpack I was wearing when I took this. God I loved that bike.
