Absolutely shite and gutting to see puberty blockers blocked during Trans Awareness Week.

The cruelty is the point.

"Positive discrimination" doesn't sound so positive when Jones is describing it.

Ali Jones got absolutely schooled by Albany English teacher Philippa Wintle on RNZ The Panel this evening. The importance of te ao Māori in our education system should not be diminished. Transcript attached for those that can't listen.

Credit where it’s due. I’m glad Winston wants to ban personal firework sales.

PSA: just saw my GP and he went out of his way to check that I’d had a measles vaccine. He reckons most New Zealanders that aren’t up to date on MMR will have measles in the next few months.

Sounds like the epidemic is going to reach Ōtautahi soon.

Heard a very upset blackbird this morning. Looked around for a while and found an empty nest on the ground, and nearby huddled in the grass were two babies.

@otautahimike.bsky.social being elected to community board AND being an MP has really wound up the hornets nest in letters to The Star

James reckons that Innes residents want a "dedicated, non-partisan representative". Well, we asked the residents, and they voted for Mike. End of story.

Phew! Took a bit of work, but I finally got the Wikipedia article about pōwhiri up to the standard where it could be accepted as a "good article" under our article assessment criteria.

Neat! So NZTA confirms that Tesla have no special approval to release "full self-driving" in New Zealand, and that there has been no advice sought or provided regarding whether the product is safe to deploy in New Zealand.

Good luck if you're sharing the road with these things.

Ōtautahi I’m sure you don’t need the reminder, but GO VOTE. Chuck your ballot in an orange bin at supermarkets or city council facilities.

And make sure you tick @sarainchch.bsky.social for mayor!
October 9, 2025 at 6:41 AM
Highly recommend watching this morning’s Q+A debate between the Ōtautahi mayoral candidates. @sarainchch.bsky.social once again demonstrated that she’s got the guts and the knowledge to lead this city into the future. Phil’s a nice guy but he’s absolutely floundering as mayor.

The orange voting golem knows where you live.

Voting packs should be landing in letterboxes across Ōtautahi right now. You can either mail them back, or drop them in the orange bins at council service centres and some supermarkets.

Vote!

Seriously, why is Mark Mitchell still allowed to front press conferences?
September 9, 2025 at 4:28 AM
Oh good god I hope this rumour is not true.
September 9, 2025 at 2:15 AM
Mark Mitchell needs to be fired as Police minister. He just blurted out that the Phillips kids are with extended family in a press conference, but that was clearly not supposed to be public info. This isn't the first time he has cocked up like this either.
