Guy seething with jealousy: Well, I think the normal sky is already pretty cool
Gladiolus represent strength of character, faithfulness, moral integrity, and remembrance. He's especially associated with red ones which represent love and passion. Instead of roses, he gives Toraki red gladioli :>
Oh I don't think I ever said Nikos' flower/plant association, it's gladioli and wheat :>
MA THERE's A WEIRD CAT OUTSIDE
Okay I guess I can go to fanfest 🥴

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

#ceramics drop on sept 21, 8pm CT
CRYING LMAO okay 😂 Toraki every time the party has to do stuff after 5pm on a day when he doesnt have club activities planned: fuck I could be hanging out at home rn
This happens in ffxiv d&d au too and like shit was going down last session but I know Toraki was thinking, "man, I wish we were still doing taco night tonight" (Toraki was supposed to be cooking) Disassociating in the campus canteen while his party member tries to intimidate their adopted brother
Nikos is the type of guy that cuts hangout time short cause it's almost dinner time and Toraki's cooking while Toraki is the type of guy who gets irritated when he can't leave for home on time to hang out with Nikos. "I miss my wife, Tails" kind of guys
Bro if I go to fanfest it will be ice soup for several months
Toraki's too straightforward for political games and subterfuge but Nikos learnt the ins and outs growing up and is more willing to play the game to a certain extent
Nikos is great at navigating political situations while Toraki is.....not lmao so it's a good thing Nikos has Toraki's back and Toraki is happy to follow his lead

Oops I thought bsky ate the first post I did for Toraki but that's fine. Anyway I suppose thinking about it in Pyrarkhe, they do both surnames and also identified by place of origin. So Nikos would be called Nikos Karyakos when he's in Haliaetus but Nikos of Haliaetus when outside of the city/region
As for Nikos, I'm still considering whether or not Pyrarkhe uses surnames but if/when he marries Toraki, he would be added to Toraki's family register in Kourai and have Toraki's last name added to his name on official documents. In day to day situations, he'd likely not be called Kozakura tho
For Toraki, since his mom is a major mage and her prominance as the local guardian of the region is so strong, he inherited her last name. He's free to use his dad's if he wants to though. As his dad is also one of the local guardians, just not as prominent as his mom, it wouldn't be odd
It's not uncommon for the first child to take the name of one house and the second to take the name of the other but this usually only happens amongst the high houses. Marriage between someone from a major house to a minor house typically has the major house's name passed down
One passed down unless it was a marriage between a Holzknecht and someone from one of the other major houses. In that case, there would be lots of talks and agreements involved on which name is passed down to any potential children. Surname inheritance can get pretty involved with the noble houses
Isa's family surname should be Holzknecht but as he's an illegitimate son, he has to take the bastard surname in Tausenach, "Grunweald". If he was ever recognized by his family, he could use Holzknecht though. House Holzknecht is also one of the major houses of Hirschrade so usually it would be the
For Toraki, since his mom is more well known and holds a lot of power and prominence as the local guardian of the region, hers was the one passed down to him. He's free to use his dad's if he wants to tho. The Kourai region is p lax with this, especially amongst yashugami
In many of the nations, the strength or prominence of the surname is usually the biggest factor. For example, Alaric's surname "Fourtinaux" is historically linked to the Outriders and always passed down regardless of whether the parent is male or female as any child will 100% become an Outrider
Huh thinking about it, I guess I never did go over surname inheritance in Wildersong. Generally speaking in nations with surnames, people keep their surnames when marrying but it's not uncommon to take a spouse's surname for whatever reason. For kids, usually the parents will choose which one to use
Woah, discovered that Nikos' last name is actually a real one, it's just very rare. That works for me lmaooo
