Another Trump tantrum aimed at 🇨🇦. We’re a favourite and convenient target because he can’t control or coerce us. And facts matter: Canada paid for that bridge, which benefits both sides. We need to defend, diversify, and build—away from the 🇺🇸 chaos and instability.
The Canadian government agreed to pay for and operate the Gordie Howe international bridge in 2012 — Michigan Republicans opposed funding it.

At last report, construction costs had reached $6.4 billion.

But the bridge is jointly owned by Canada and Michigan.

Why is accountability happening everywhere except the U.S. in the Epstein case? A known sex trafficker had an incinerator on his property — and it was never searched?
This is no longer just a 🇺🇸 matter. It demands an independent international investigation, not by DOJ, POTUS, or SCOTUS.

We need a a couple of floor crossers—or a snap spring election PP desperately wants to avoid—to put him out to pasture. Canada isn’t broken or stupid, and this isn’t our fault—we didn't start it. What we don’t need is a rage-baiting grifter dividing Canadians. One more loss ends it.

👏Bravo Premier Holt and the New Brunswick govt for abandoning X. Official government communications don’t belong on a platform that rewards toxicity, disinformation, and worse. I hope other provinces and premiers follow suit and stop official posting on that hellsite.👏

Premier Susan Holt on the N.B. government's decision to abandon X: "We've just seen that it used to be a forum for more dialogue and we used to see better engagement and back and forth with New Brunswickers on the platform. But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore."

This follows the Putin playbook Trump admires. Think Brexit: a referendum meant to fail, dark money floods in, chaos follows. It’s easy to imagine claims of a “rigged vote” taking hold among Smith’s base—and calls for U.S. “liberation” soon after.

I won’t repeat or share what was posted—it was vile and racist. The outrage will be loud but fleeting, as usual. Only a few Republicans spoke up. The world is watching, and it’s utterly disgusted.
In case you’re wondering, Trump’s grotesque, racist post about the Obamas is making news globally.

Here is BBC News in the UK with a significant segment on it.

From Trump’s view, great powers enforce spheres of influence—and resource-rich Canada sits in the U.S. zone. The new National Security Strategy asserts hemispheric “pre-eminence.” International law won’t shield us; it failed amid past U.S. interventions.

"As Trump is almost certainly unaware, Canada has a far deeper history of beating back U.S. designs than most outside Canada have ever known. That history is far more relevant now than it has been in a century—all thanks to a rupture that is only just beginning."
After the past few weeks, one thing is clear:

The U.S. under Trump is now Canada's greatest national security threat.

My write-up in @foreignpolicy.com on the rupture, and on how Trump is returning the U.S. to its traditional position as a threat against Ottawa.

Not the most important thing in the world, but the Conservative party has a shadow minister for foreign affairs, a shadow minister for Canada-US trade and a shadow minister for international trade.

Can O’Toole please have a word with PP and Jivani? They seem to need this reminder far more than our government—or most Canadians.

O'TOOLE: "Canadians expect our parties, the PM, the LOO and all MPs, to make sure that Canada does not descend to that level of division and quite frankly chaos [currently in the US]. We have a great country and we have to remind ourselves of that sometimes."
