Labour councillor for Nottingham's Castle ward: The Park, the City Centre, and Castle Marina.
We installed new tactile paving during recent road works on George Street in Hockley. This is a small but important addition to make our city more welcoming and accessible.

Is there a spot near you that needs an accessibility upgrade? Let us know below or by email.

A beautiful day for our Nikkah with family, friends and the love of my life.

I spent this afternoon visiting Brightmoor Street and Brightmoor Court with colleagues from the council's housing department.

We had a good chat with a couple of residents, noted a few repairs, and talked about some plans to make it an even better place to live for our tenants.

At last week's Notts County Council meeting, Tory leader Sam Smith made some pretty strange claims about Nottingham...

If Sam does want to visit the castle, now he knows it's open, he can get a year-long ticket for only £15! He can even book ahead at nottinghamcastle.org.uk/admission

Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon speaking to residents in Castle Exchange and the rest of Broad Street and Western Street. Spotted some issues with trade waste which have been reported and left contact info in case there are any repeats.

Out this morning with council staff, It's In Nottingham and the universities, taking in Market Square, Long Row, Clumber St, Lincoln St and Clinton St West. We found some issues with waste, fly-tipping and grafitti which we'll be addressing at a day of action on Friday.

Spending today in Nuthall East & Strelley, supporting @broxtowelabour.bsky.social's Domenica Lopinto in today's by-election. The election is a knife edge between Labour and Reform, and the weather is a knife edge between sunny and rainy.

I was in Central Library this morning with council staff, speaking to residents as part of our Future Council Conversations. We were asking the public what they think of council services and what they would change about how we do things. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat!

Upstairs in Room 3 of Central Library this morning until midday for our regular ward surgery.

Come say hi if there's anything you'd like to talk about, or catch me next Saturday at the Squash Club in The Park, or email on matt.shannon@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

We remain concerned about rising violent crime on the canal path. Patrols are being increased, and we’re exploring options for better lighting and CCTV. We'll be meeting with the Canal & River Trust and other partners to look at more responses.

I visited Carter Gate today with council staff to listen to local concerns. There's work to do; residents raised issues with waste and green spaces. We’ll be writing out about the work we're doing, including sorting out the bins, organising a litter pick, and making regular visits until it’s sorted.

I marched with colleagues from the GMB trade union at Notts Pride today. With LGBT+ communities continuing to come under attack, particularly our trans neighbours, Pride is as important as ever.

Another Friday evening talking to Castle ward residents today! This time we were speaking to people living in Ropewalk Court on Derby Road about what's important to them.

Did we miss you? Drop me an email to matt.shannon@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

I spent a sunny Friday evening speaking to residents in the Atrium building on Station Street, ably supported by Labour colleagues Joel and Aadarsh. We had some really good conversations with residents there about their thoughts and concerns.

We ran another day of action in the city centre last week - this time around Broadmarsh, the canal, and the train station. We carried out trade waste checks, cleaned up litter and graffiti, and met with businesses to talk about the issues they're facing.

Today's ward walk started at the Green Heart, looking beautiful in the sun. We went along Carrington St, Station St, the canal path, and Sussex St under the tramline. We've got graffiti and flyposting marked for cleaning up at this week's day of action, so watch this space!

Continuing our Love Your City Centre campaign, we’ve cleaned up Bellar Gate Rest Garden—once an ancient burial ground, now a quiet space in the city centre. It’s sad to see places like this vandalised, but we’re glad the Clean Team were able to give it the respect it deserves.

Meeting and greeting at the castle entrance to the Park Garden Trail this afternoon - lots of visitors in spite of the occasional shower!

Well done to the PGT committee for organising a wonderful event, as always, and to everyone who opened up their garden.

The remnants of something that used to be a semi-successful political party came to Nottingham today to spread a message of hatred and division. The good people of Nottingham peacefully outnumbered them.

A big thanks to Notts Police for keeping everyone safe.
