Canada is a major importer of fruit, vegetables & fish. As more oil & gas is exported expect equal increases in the cost of food as the planet warms. BC could be self sufficient but our governments are allowing development on #ALR Land protected by the Barrett #NDP. #keepitintheground & #savetheALR

Federally the Green Party has collapsed and the NDP has become liberal. Here's why I support Avi Lewis for NDP leader. To Green supporters and NDP supporters and those who have abandoned the NDP, please join to support Avi Lewis and the best of both parties.
My position is clear: I am unequivocally opposed to any new fossil fuel development — including LNG.

We must have the courage to say this to every government, of any stripe: if you’re building new pipelines or fossil infrastructure, this shall not pass.

California’s refineries are closing not because of regulation, but because gasoline demand is shrinking as EV adoption crosses tipping points.

Elizabeth May is right. We aren't independent of the USA if we have to depend on American corporations to build and operate nuclear and LNG plants.

Interesting to note that the refineries that are closing are heavy sour crude refineries, the kind that process Canadian crude. As gasoline demand declines, this type of refinery closes first because it's the least profitable. Time for Alberta to diversify its economy.

Note that the two refineries together process around 284,000 barrels/day of heavy sour crude. As far as I know, heavy sour crude (in the form of dilbit) is the only grade of oil shipped to California from Canada.

Did you see the solar panels? We promoted solar on rooftops & over livestock grazing on pasture. We established an Agricultural Land Reserve to protect our limited farmland & scientists warned of desertification of farmland in the south & millions moving north as climate changes. It's happening now.

I found this history fascinating, especially how the US under Bush I a) pushed to create the IPCC to center government representatives, not scientists, in UN climate action; b) used the IPCC to block binding emission targets and carbon taxes on rich countries, which seemed imminent in 1988.

No surprise. In 1972 BC elected a science based social-democratic govt. for 3 1/2 yrs. We held science conferences on energy, decided against nuclear, opposed supertankers on our coast, & supertanker ports, banned offshore drilling & new dams, promoted LRT & held a week long alternative energy show

The "vow to protect food security" is a ploy to force farmers to not do what they want to on their own land

In the US for example, less than 0.5% of farmland has been converted to solar gardens which can easily be returned to farmland. Do you have any idea how much farmland has become subdivisions?

Canada is one of the top ten CO2 emitters in the world. But that's not the whole story. Canada exports fossil fuels to other countries, increasing their CO2 emissions. Alberta is intent on building more pipelines and BC is intent on shipping LNG. It is past time to #keepitintheground.
