How is climate affecting global security? Do we need to consider climate in operational planning and crisis communication?
It may be time for a greater discussion on federal, state (provincial) and municipal preparedness. In late August 2023, the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre reported 1,069 active fires; more than half were listed as out of control. How do we respond? Do we need a national fire fighting force?
As climate change increases the risk of dry conditions and fire weather, fires across western NAm are bigger, more dangerous, and burning greater area.

It’s the difference between accidentally dropping a match into a pile of green, wet wood versus dropping it into a stack of bone dry kindling.

The LA fires are a deadly start to 2025 and are a worrying sign for the 2025 fire season. High winds, dry conditions and population density all contributed to the disaster. What are the lessons learned for sustaining resiliency?

An interesting piece. Climate conditions may place a population in jeopardy. How to access regions with relief may not be feasible. Preparation, security and alternative delivery methods all need to be considered.

Once one of America’s most outspoken voices on the threat of climate change, Elon Musk now argues these existential risks have been overstated.

This shifting stance could influence President-elect Donald Trump and help the Tesla CEO’s businesses.

Richer countries are starting to pay poorer ones for climate change damages
With climate-related disasters getting more extreme, richer countries are piloting ways to compensate developing nations, since they bear the least responsibility for causing climate change.
