Newsom's understanding of the political moment to push back against gerrymandering in Texas was pivotal and propels him into top tier contention for the 2028 nomination.

The "fail fast" response seemed to be a little too glib to explain Newsom's willingness to take political risk.

Newsom uses the term "grace" several times in the interview. It would be interesting to hear him discuss what grace means to him.
December 11, 2025 at 2:16 PM
Newsom's unscripted responses were the best part of the interview. His gut-level response to JD Vance's "Heritage Americans" was excellent. Vance's rejection of the American creed is not new in U.S. politics but has become more dangerous with ubiquitous social media.

The Norwegian think tank DNV projects an energy transition to zero-carbon energy resources that is slightly slower than last year's forecast, in terms of both emissions and fossil share of primary energy. Developing regions of the world are installing green technologies. www.dnv.com/eto2025/?utm...

Despite global electricity demand rising by 2.6%, GHG emissions fell slightly by in the first half of 2025. Declines in China and India reflected clean generation growth outpacing demand. By contrast, emissions increased in the EU and the US compared with last year. ember-energy.org/latest-insig...

Global electricity demand grew by 2.6% (+369 TWh) in the first half of 2025. This increase was more than met by increases in solar (+306 TWh, +31%) and wind (+97 TWh, +7.7%) generation, with solar alone covering 83% of the rise. ember-energy.org/latest-insig...

The US, which is trying to position itself as a major fossil fuel exporter, sold $80 billion in oil and gas abroad through July. China exported $120 billion in green technologies (solar, batteries and EVs) over the same period.

Dominion Energy forecast that its peak demand would rise by more than 75% by 2039 with data centers. It would be just 10% without. Against that backdrop, power costs have become a key issue in this year’s gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

In the US, power demand from data centers is set to double by 2035, to almost 9% of all demand. It will be the biggest surge in US energy demand since air conditioning in the 1960s. That comes as the grid is already struggling to update aging infrastructure. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

Globally, data centers are expected to consume more than 4% of electricity by 2035, according to BloombergNEF. Put another way: If the facilities were a country they’d rank fourth in electricity use, behind only China, the US and India. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
