This isn’t “efficiency” it’s an ideological shift towards a Little England university system.

Nottingham is set to become the only Russell Group university with no modern languages or music degrees.

48 courses on the line. We’re fighting it.

University of Nottingham considers axing language and music degrees
Total of 48 degrees could disappear from Russell Group institution, with falling revenues and rising costs blamed

Allows me to post my fun fact that the most southerly town in the world, Ushuaia, is the same distance to the south pole as Manchester is to the north pole.
if you're struggling with the November gloom, you may enjoy this little graph. To live as far away from the equator as the UK is a decision that most of the world have decided, quite sensibly, not to make. Also note there's barely any land available at the equivalent latitude in the south.

Niche post, but would anyone with a nice venue within a few hours of London (*hello vicars*) be interested in hosting an afternoon concert by Imperial College Chamber Choir on Saturday November 8th? 45 minutes, a cappella sacred music, retiring collection, that sort of thing.

In other ‘Look At Me!’ news, Radio 3 are repeating the Satire & The Stave series I made with them earlier this year and it was Pick of The Week on Radio 4, no less. Ep 2 went out on Saturday. Some great music in this - yer Bernstein, yer Smyth, yer Britten. Get on it.
