Waltz pushed to the extreme, to a breaking point:

Written between 1919 and 1920, Maurice Ravel's La valse is a love letter to the waltz, and to the fading, crumbling culture of Vienna, and Europe, of the 19th century.

On November 20, 1889, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 "Titan" had its first performance.

Here's "Titan" performed by the Vienna Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein–a hallmark recording of this absolute masterpiece.

Austrian composer Franz Schubert passed away 196 years ago, on November 19, 1828.

Schubert is among the foremost early Romantic composers, celebrated for his symphonies, piano works, and lieder (German art songs).
