January 2026 averaged significantly colder than normal, but nowhere near a record. Most of Michigan averaged around four degrees colder than normal. But if we had the same cold early as we did in the second half of January, we would have set a record for cold in January

Mickey Lolich, who had three complete-game victories for the Detroit Tigers in the 1968 World Series, the last Major League Baseball pitcher to post the incredible feat, died Wednesday. He was 85.
