I have moved from the “How am I going to write a paper on this topic” stage of research for my SBL paper and am now in the “How am I going to write a paper instead of a whole book” stage.

Nothing like having your writing momentum ruined by MS Word freaking out at a font change you made to a *Greek* style by bolding all the *Hebrew* in the document. I’ve fixed it (by reverting), but this was a 20 minute interruption with me pulling my (metaphorical) hair out 🙄

It’s Christmas night/Boxing Day wee morning hours. I should go to bed. But the house is quiet, I have very nice bourbon, and there’s a JRPG to play.

Getting ready to cross the Pacific on my way home. Loved seeing old friends and making new ones at #sblaar24! It was a blast of a conference full of good papers, meetings, and food. See y’all next year in Boston! (Or in Sydney next August for the Septuagintally inclined 😉)

Today was the final exam for first-year Greek. And boy did my students PASS.

(As much as I want to say the bottle of Blanton’s is the best part, the card with notes from each student is so touching, special, and perfect ❤️)

In Gen 33:4, when Esau runs to Jacob and kisses him, we have this spectacular verb ("he kissed him") where every letter is dotted. Why? There are a few theories, but the best by far is from Rabbi Yannay in Bereishit Rabbah 78:9: Esau didn't kiss Jacob ... he BIT him! (1/3)
