Reason, logic, and evidence won't convince us to believe a thing we aren't emotionally ready to believe. If it appears to have done so, it was only because we have the emotional maturity for reality to sway us. This is what intellectuals don't get about average people and why arguments fall flat.

Evil often hides in plain sight, nestled among the familiar. A record of a favorite song with a bad scratch we have learned to ignore. Like a disease, lying dormant, unassuming, until conditions are right to spread once more.

The most intelligent people are those who are more interested in what defies their expectations than in what confirms them.

Indifference to evil done to others is an evil in itself.

A people who are indifferent about democracy will not hold it for long. People who repress life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for others do not deserve it for themselves.

All past golden ages which people now look back upon with oft undeserved reverence and nostalgia were once, to those at the time, uncertain and frightening futures that caused them much trepidation. What will be, will be. Learn the right lessons from the past, then step forward with composure.

The seeds of true evil are relatively rare, but the lethargic loam of complacency, avarice, and apathy is everywhere, and therein those seeds find safe harbor and sustenance to flourish like weeds, unnoticed until suddenly they are everywhere and choke the garden.

When there are no consequences for bad behavior, it intensifies. When there is no appreciation of good behavior, it withers.

In seeking truth, start with your own eyes. Next, seek advice from experts in the field with a record of accuracy. Seek health advice from a doctor, building advice from an engineer, but not vice-versa. Be skeptical of hyperbole. Insist on proof. Make all belief proportional to the evidence for it.

For almost every ethical question, there is rarely a simple answer. More often, there are two simple answers - one based in reason, kindness, and fairness, and another based in fervor, callousness, and avarice.

It is possible to intentionally deceive by telling the literal truth either incompletely or out of context. People do it all the time and think they're not really lying. They are.

Too much "How to get everyone else to see my point of view", not enough "Maybe I should take a closer look at my own point of view."

Whether online or off, do not argue with bigots, zealots, cultists, or anti-intellectuals of any stripe. Present enlightened views and the evidence for them, then move on. Only children and fools hoot back at the monkey cage.

The Truth will not set you free. The Truth is only a tool. A key. You must use it to set yourself free. Many people decline, preferring the familiar comfort of their chains.
