Rewatched IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT admiring how Jafar Panahi uses the restrictions placed on him to develop his own distinct film style. This is one of his best. Moral ambiguity is further complicated by the characters plagued with almost paralysing doubt. It’s tense, dramatic and cynically humorous.

THE SECRET AGENT is a smart and evocative film about living in an authoritarian state. It is a bittersweet reflection on how facts get distorted, memories fade and questions remain unanswered, but life goes on and there are always people who keep asking those questions.

I really fell for IS THIS THING ON? and not just because it’s a film about middle-age and separation that offers hope for a second act, but that helps. Will Arnett in full dramatic mode is a revelation and somehow Laura Dern does the impossible by making me love her even more than ever.

MARTY SUPREME is in the spirit of GOOD TIME and UNCUT GEMS where the likeable but infuriating lead character is an agent of chaos, and the energetic film style conveys how much events are spiralling out of control. Chalamet really stands out as somebody you want to see triumph and also brought down.

Catherine O'Hara was so incredibly funny. Her expressions alone were comedic masterpieces. She was such a warm and generous performer that she never came across as wanting to standout or steal the scene, but of course, she often always did. Everything she was in was made better by her being in it.

This essay by @mrdtjames.bsky.social, highlighting the blatant selective outrage over acts of violence, is precise and to the point, and very much worth your time.

HAMNET is spell-bounding and so very sad, this is a deeply felt film about love, grief and the power of art. I’ve always really liked Jessie Buckley, but she is transcendent in this. Likewise Paul Mescal, and the child actors are some of the best I’ve seen. Watching this was a beautiful experience.

Yes!
January 20, 2026 at 7:13 AM
I’d advise against it as there are some significant details that the new film assumes you will already know from the previous film.

I've seen some claim this film to be the best in the series, which I can't agree with, although it is incredibly good. This is how I currently rank them:

1. 28 DAYS LATER (2002)
2. 28 YEARS LATER (2025)
3. 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE (2026)

Then...

4. 28 WEEKS LATER (2007) - it's okay.
January 19, 2026 at 2:25 AM
28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE continues the profane folk horror vibes to be a wonderfully vicious film about religious belief at its most perverse and violently self justifying. The gang of sadistic fanatics dress like Jimmy Savile is a nice and nasty touch that should ensure nobody cosplays them.
