The Hunt (2020) review: A funny and gory film with billionaire leftists hunting poor right wingers. Unfortunately falls down when you remember the bastard billionaires are pretty uniformly right-wingers. South Park style "both sides are dumb" but still pretty fun. Glenn Howerton perfectly cast. 3/5.

Predestination (2014) review: Intriguing time travel stuff for the first two thirds, but it doesn't stick the landing and goes for the most boring and predictable resolution possible. Excellent performance from Sarah Snook though and Ethan Hawke is decent too. 2.5/5.

Coherence (2013) review: a micro-budget production costing just $50,000 but more interesting than most films. An interesting exploration of a mind-bending premise. It's not quite Primer but has a similar vibe, also reminds me of Triangle. Naturalistic ad-libbed dialogue as realities collide. 3.5/5.

Upgrade (2018) review: A fun sci-fi revenge film with a lot of violence and a surprising amount of humour. Like RoboCop meets Venom with a budget Tom Hardy. The film doesn't delve deep or philosophise, it just has fun with the idea. Solidly entertaining but nothing deep here. 3/5.

Smile 2 (2024) Review: Really enjoyed the first film but the second is a disappointment. Not very scary, not very deep, not a lot happens and the "twist" at the end means that most of the movie is meaningless. Some good sequences (dancers in apartment was great) but overall a bit step down. 2.5/5

Hot take: I don't care about 4K. Give me games at 60fps with all the graphical bells and whistles like ray tracing, running at 1080p. Especially on PS5, putting anything on "quality" mode makes the framerate chug and stutter like an alcoholic with a speech impediment.

If they remaster Dark Souls 3 (which stool looks fantastic) before we get 60fps Bloodborne, I WILL riot.
Dark Souls 3 remaster is coming claims insider – still no Bloodborne
Despite all the cries for a Bloodborne remaster or remake, Dark Souls 3 is said to be the next FromSoftware title getting the upgrade treatment.

Quite excited for the Armored Core episode of "Secret Level" even though I've only been a fan since AC6. 10th of December can't come soon enough!

Helldivers 2 (2024 - VG) review: A huge amount of fun with the ability to call in a variety of airstrikes against hordes of bugs and bots. Fun Starship Trooper-like satire. Weapons feel great. This is my most-played game of the year. It does get repetitive but is still in my rotation. 4.5/5.

Sekiro (2019 - VG) review: My favourite game ever. Hard as nails action with fantastic boss battles and the most satisfying combat I've ever encountered. Every fight feels like a deadly dance. The difficulty and enemy moveset memorisation won't be for everyone, but I absolutely adore it. 5/5.

NFS Heat (2019 - VG) review: A vibrant Miami-esque city to race around that looks great at night and a solid selection of cars. Unfortunately they all handle near-identically and the only reason to continue after the very short story ends is to collect more cars. Fun but disposable. 3/5.

Dead Space (2023 - VG) review: A faithful remaster of a horror-action classic with a handful of smart improvements. It plays like a sci-fi Resident Evil 4, which is very high praise. Event Horizon via Cronenberg. Great blend of body-horror, action and sci-fi. Creepy, culty fun. 4.5/5.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) review: My favourite action film of all time. Incredible world-building and set/vehicle design, mind-blowing action, absurd yet somehow grounded. A masterclass in film-making and in allowing character development with minimal dialogue. I doubt this will ever be topped. 5/5.

Past Lives (2023) review: The film didn't get interesting for me until the characters meet in NY, but the quiet exploration of nostalgia, identity and longing was deeply moving. Magaro's vulnerability was heartbreaking. Low stakes but exploring huge emotions. Will make you ponder your own path. 4/5.

Mayhem (2017) Review: I was excited for a Weaving/Yeun team-up, but the film was disappointing. Cheesy narration from Yeun, lack of impactful violence, not funny, incredibly on the nose and structured like a videogame. I loathe capitalism but this unsubtle mess gave me little satisfaction. 1.5/5

Ready or Not (2019): Very fun "gosh aren't rich people terrible?" film with Weaving further cementing her scream-queen status as she's hunted through the manor and surrounding grounds. Entertaining throughout, fun violence and made me laugh at unexpected deaths a couple times. Worth a watch. 4/5.

No Exit (2022) review: A serviceable thriller that takes a while to get going. Early tension could have been extended but the third act is solid and pacey and character decisions are mostly logical. Good performances but it feels like a film I've seen many times before in different iterations. 2.5/5

The Substance (2024) review: An incredibly stylish and compelling look at body-image and self-loathing. Moore is fantastic as she unravels and Qualley is an excellent counterpart. Quaid is perfectly disgusting. The third-act is horrifying and heart-breaking. Best film I've seen this year. 5/5

I was wondering what I can contribute to this platform, and realised that I watch a lot of random films and play a lot of random video games, so I guess I'll do little film and video game reviews!
