It's almost that time once again. Our annual holiday open house will be Saturday, December 6 from 12-3 pm. As always, the wonderful Tintabulations will be joining us. The concert starts at 1, and there will be crafts and light refreshments. Join us for a free afternoon of family holiday fun!

November is national life writing month and family stories month, and everyday people’s stories are our bread and butter. Even if you don’t think you or your family members have done anything too interesting or impressive, consider writing these stories down.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes have been sold across the US since 2004, but did you know that premixed pumpkin pie spices predate it by almost 70 years? Though called pumpkin pie spice rather than simply pumpkin spice, you could buy this mix from the Ben-Hur company, which operated from the 20s to the 50s.

On this day in 1939, Orson Welles’s “War of the Worlds” was broadcast. Modern historians now believe newspaper accounts of it causing “hysteria” were likely overblown, but it was still a chilling piece of radio drama. Stop by our 1930s house to hear a (less terrifying) recording from that year!

With everything going on, we almost forgot to mention that October is also National Archives Month! We have an extensive archive of newspapers, county records, and thousands of other documents donated to us throughout the years. If you want to see them, contact scott.gambino@churchillcountynv.gov

We want to give a MASSIVE thank you to Melina Nicolatus and the John C Kish foundation for their $15,000 gift towards restoring the Woodliff building! These funds will go towards much needed roof and siding repair, as well as beautifying the surrounding area.
