NEW: Google is hosting a CBP app that uses facial recognition to identify immigrants, and tell local cops whether to contact ICE about the person, while also removing apps designed to warn communities about ICE officials.

My question to Meta is, why bother to roll out the cannons to blast this tome? The effort to neutralize the book seems quaint and futile. For one thing, NDAs do not cancel out the first amendment, @stevenlevy.bsky.social writes.

I’m watching The Wire finally (I know, I’m 2 decades late), and Bodie just got killed. I am not handling it well! This finale was hard.
To me, he represents the American dream, the middle class. You’re a solider. Follow orders. Go to college. But you’re still just a little bi*ch in the game of life.

Great reporting on the border wall by The Texas Tribune.

“At the current pace, construction would take more than 30 years and cost up to $24 billion.”

Insane.

(If it were me, I’d be focusing on building a high speed rail system in Texas instead)
Border security experts who reviewed the Tribune’s findings say that construction appears to be driven by where the state can most easily acquire land instead of where a wall would be most effective at deterring illegal crossings. apps.texastribune.org/features/202...
Landowner resistance forces Texas to build wall in remote areas
