I’ve seen signs for some time: a urine marking high on a bird feeder post; a paw print next to the water basin; scrape marks next to scat; fewer ground squirrels; and the daily irritated calls of the raven pair. Finally saw him yesterday, an adult bobcat. Older drawing" Wildcat". pencil on paper.

Transformation Mask. This is one of my earlier mixed-media drawings.
My life-long interest in masks concerns the human tendency to don personality masks to hide true feelings, or negative aspects of self. There is always a hint of the hidden, no matter how benign the mask expression.

My Mom lived in the Netherlands during the time of Ann Frank, the time of Hitler, occupation, hate, genocide, and persecution. None of that went away, it just festered underground, and now it has been given breath again. This was published in the Spring/Summer 2000 edition of The Black Bear Review.
