Maybe digital designers should just design other things besides software.

Ngl I just impulse bought these based on this ad. They clearly know my style profile is entirely 90s anime.

I haven’t accepted the new Apple Terms of service since November 2024. I just can’t.

I think I’ll just focus on aesthetics. When I was a kid I envisioned living in a house or driving a car that looked like this
Chunky, highly tactile product design makes me enjoy just touching an object.
Modern devices, in many cases are designed in a way that discourages touch.

Ai will ultimately be used to simply process the data it creates for itself with very little human input. Algorithms trained on platforms that use to have lots of users feign relevance with bots created to keep their daily active user counts up.

The data vacuum is real.

i look at products designed in this era and I wonder how much research they did to get it here #retro #aesthetics #design #ux

AI is just simulated humanity with no emotion. It can “make” things buts really just mass copying human ingenuity without asking for permission. #ai #design #ux

Wow. Never mention anything positive or negative about Apple in a post on LinkedIn. The people WILL NOT take it well. Design pros treat every Apple take like a personal attack or endorsement. Never thought I'd see so much passion about profit optimized updates & sales engineering 😅

Tech culture often over-complicates human social dynamics. As an extrovert in tech, I've noticed how many brilliant engineers and AI developers approach social interaction as if it's a complex system to be solved, when really, it's natural and fluid for many people.

For me, the focus on so called “product discovery” recently says that the last decade of killing off UX hasn’t panned out. Having been a product leader, I think product discovery is a bandaid for good research. Also when people work in places w/no research org, their view of is research is limited.

Tech isn’t the only industry that needs ux 🙃. Yet so many of us keep behaving in ways that make it seem like it is.

Today’s digital products visually scream, “give me your money!” And business leaders think they are well designed 🙃🙃🤣🤣

have we ux designers realized we are designing for old tech yet? The old interfaces are dying and new ones appearing. What about a future where mobile devices have no screens at all? Or you ride in your mobile device? Or that screens are in the places that you go? Or that we have redesign education?

I become increasingly convinced everyday that all ux people should start companies after 10 years. By that point, you know enough about markets, users, and deadlines to be able to deliver a useful and useable product without help.

Haptics could be better. I miss tactile interfaces and haptics might be the best way back. But they need focus in a way that we don’t seem to have as an industry.

Interface of the day:

those analog dials, that paper readout, the way the neon just *hits*
utterly obsessed with how practical yet dramatic these old interfaces were. like yes, you absolutely need giant knobs and glowing displays to do Science™

The profitization of the youth soccer industry in general was the death of good player development in many places. When this approach is taken at development level physicality trumps skill creativity and while you get good athletes whether or not they are soccer players is very much up for debate.
