"Some women aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some women just want to watch the world burn."

With all the discourse surrounding the death of cibema, it's crazy how many big studio auteur-driven films we've gotten this year. Sinners, Superman, Mickey 17, One Battle After Another, Frankenstein. #filmsky

Wild that we've had two incredible leading performances from very talented animals this year. #filmsky #caughtstealing #goodboy

lol at all the idiots leaving Sinners as soon as the end credits start.

Laura Carreira's On Falling is a quietly devastating film about the psychological and emotional toll of dehumanising menial labour. But it's far from misery porn, maintaining empathy and humanity throughout. #filmsky

Nickel Boys should have won Best Picture at the #Oscars, but of all the nominees that weren't Nickel Boys, I'm glad Anora won.

Saw The People's Joker last night on its limited UK release. Amazing, hilarious, surprisingly earnest. I knew it was "mixed media" but I wasn't expecting almost every scene to be a different thing - 2D animation, 3D animation, action figures, puppets, Doom mods...

My favourite part of Heart Eyes was when the only reaction the Hobbs and Shaw joke got was a quiet cough from the back row.

Disappointed by the lack of nominations for Nickel Boys. Really thought it was a shoo-in for editing and especially cinematography. #Oscars #AcademyAwards

I get the politics and category negotiations and all, but come on, Kieran Culkin is a lead in A Real Pain. #oscars

Speaking of Lynch's legacy and the difficulties of pinning down truly "Lynchian" works outside the director's own, I think Jane Schoenbrun's I Saw the TV Glow is one of the few films to truly tap into that particular vein.

"Faster and faster. And for a long time you wouldn't feel anything. And then you'd burst into fire. Forever. And the angel's wouldn't help you. Because they've all gone away"

Big cinema weekend coming up. Tomorrow I'm seeing Babygirl, The Girl With the Needle, and A Real Pain (which sounds like its own weird triptych), then Saturday it's Larrain's Maria. #filmsky

If Top Gun is the gayest straight movie, then Point Break is the straightest gay movie.

Nickel Boys is a transcendent cinematic experience. But as a Brit, the phrase which kept floating around my head, rather insensitively, was "Jim Crow Peep Show".
