The players voted Steph 2nd(!) and Ant 4th.

In terms of score it wasn’t close between Ant and Steph. Ant loses the tiebreaker to Wemby because Wemby placed one slot higher in fan voting.

Opening up the mailbag for the newsletter tomorrow. Send your questions and hey look Beringer is finally playing! I don’t have to add the caveat this week.

For all the talk about trades and the roster, the most direct path to the Wolves improving on two conference final appearances is Anthony Edwards going from a 2nd team All NBA player, as he was the last two years, to 1st team NBA/MVP candidate. Seems like that’s happening.

Gobert pulled a Sengun on Sengun to foul him out.

Per the box score, the third quarter took 44 minutes to complete. Wolves committed 11 fouls. Houston shot 8-for-15 at the foul line. Wolves 6-for-11.

Gobert had 0 fouls in the first half but picked up three in the first few minutes of the third.

Rockets doing their best Wolves impression at the FT line: 2-for-6.

They apparently have the Rachel Dratch Amy Poehler podcast headphones at the review TV tonight.

Even with Gobert back in the lineup, Beringer getting minutes.

Philosophy question: If a team (like the Wolves just did) converts a tech FT while on defense and then holds the opponent scoreless on the possession, does that count as like -1 point per possession allowed for the defense? Does the FT count as an offensive possession?

That has been common during my Wolves tenure more than I think people realized. But Jon K. was riding solo tonight. I'm home.
@christopherhine.bsky.social Were you actually the only one in the postgame interview room with Coach Finch tonight? If so, is that common on the road? Thanks for being the voice of the fans!

Wolves survived that burst out of the half by the Bucks, up 28 entering the fourth. Many superlatives to go around. Bones taking advantage of the increased usage. Joan continues to impress.

Some of this Milwaukee defense has been ... yikes.
January 14, 2026 at 2:04 AM
Joan Beringer reverse layup on Giannis no big deal.
No Anthony Edwards. No Rudy Gobert. So naturally, the Timberwolves lead the Bucks 38-20 after one quarter. Jaden McDaniels 5-for-5 (14 points) and Joan Beringer held his own in his first rotation minutes.

Editor's note: Not in Milwaukee tonight.

Anthony Edwards listed as OUT because of right foot injury maintenance tomorrow on the team's injury report. Split squad Wolves headed to Milwaukee tomorrow also without Gobert.

It does reset for the playoffs, however there is one nightmare sceanrio. Let's say Gobert picks up a flagrant in Game 82. Any subsequent suspension will not wait until next season. He will have to serve it immediately, meaning he could miss playoff games for flagrants committed in Game 81/82.
At this point and rate, I don’t see how he doesn’t pick up a few more before the end of the season.

Does this reset for the playoffs? It would be devastating if he picked up a two game suspension in the playoffs.

So I misspoke yesterday (this has been confusing trying to clarify the antennae to this rule). Gobert has 6 flagrant points. Another flagrant ONE will result in another ONE-game suspension for Gobert. If he reaches 7 flagrant points, each flagrant is a TWO-game suspension.
One more note: every flagrant foul Gobert gets beyond this one, even if it's a flagrant 1, results in a TWO game suspension once he serves this one-game suspension Tuesday.
That's a flagrant foul 1 on Gobert for the reckless closeout on Wembanyama, and based on the flagrant foul points he's accumulated this season, he will be suspended one game for Tuesday's game against Milwaukee.

Anthony Edwards postgame tonight on wanting the ball in the 4th quarter.

Anthony Edwards on seeing Wemby before his final make: “I was like, ‘Aw, shit.’ You ain’t see me? I was like, ‘Damn! Do I got the shot? Do I drive on him?’ I was confused. I ain’t never been confused. I ain’t going to lie."

This is why I don't do this. Wolves won the challenge!
Challenge result prediction from me: Wolves will lose. Ant got his arm.
