Futurist working at the nexus of foresight, innovation, and strategy
Gen AI being used by consumers will significantly speed up the classic diffusion of innovation model as it will make adopting new tech seamless and reduce the learning curve for Early Majority.

For foresight work, such as generating future personas and narratives from a set of trends and values you upload, I'm finding Anthropic Claude AI does a better job than ChatGPT

My new article is out: Foresight and Innovation - Revisiting IRI2038 looks back on a huge project we did 10 years ago that engaged 100's of senior innovation leaders from around the world looking at the future of innovation in 2038. I've got some digital copies I can send if you can't get access.

(PS) Gen AI in Foresight. Don't forget to go into your settings for Gen AI services you are using to ensure any data provided the AI is kept private and the information is not being used to train the model itself. It's important to protect client IP! This usually means a paid, premium subscription.

(5/5) The power of Gen AI makes it a useful tool in foresight, but its application will change how practitioners conduct their work. It is changing processes, inputs and deliverables. Super important for foresight practitioners to experiment and learn the advantages and pitfalls in its application

(4/5) Gen AI in foresight has a fidelity problem. Building detailed scenarios makes it easier for innovators to create empathy with future customers and find JTBD. But sometimes gen AI is too good, creating future images or personas that are too good, swamping other steps of the foresight process.

(3/5) Gen AI in foresight has an anchoring problem. While the patterns of history are a huge part of looking ahead, the future is also populated by entirely new phenomena. It’s important to include abductive thinking and emergent change to gen AI models that are trained on the past.

(2/5) Gen AI in foresight has a Cassandra problem. Even if it is useful, it is not accepted because the humans who need to use were not engaged in the work. Sometimes it’s the process not the result.

(1/5) Gen AI in foresight. I've been using generative AI every day to accelerate the foresight, innovation, and strategy work I do for clients. But there are important caveats in its use, so it’s important for foresight practitioners to guide its application.

Do the math - good article on CO2 removal. I've been telling clients for a decade that geo-engineering is a necessity and it starts with removal. Look ahead and start thinking about CO2 utilization - how can your company not just capture it but use it in the process of creating and delivering value?
Carbon-dioxide removal needs more attention
It is vital to climate stabilisation, remarkably challenging and systematically ignored
