Be really funny if, in response to Trump’s nonsense on Chagos, a Govt spokesperson simply said “He doesn’t know his fat arse from his elbow” #R4today

Yes but John Swinney is largely an irrelevance to the 92% of Brits who don’t live in Scotland.

1 in 5 young men in UK don’t have a job . Youth unemployment is now higher here than the EU average . AI is about to wipe out millions of jobs .

Increasing the minimum wage for young people to the same level as “adult” workers would be bonkers . As would increasing employment rights #r4today

US State Dept formally confirms support for UK “surrender deal” (sic) on Chagos Islands, in massive blow for Farage, the Tories and right wing media #R4today
February 18, 2026 at 7:09 AM
With youth unemployment at 17% and higher than the EU average, it obviously makes sense not to equalise the minimum wage for young people with older workers .

However, this will be yet another u-turn on a manifesto promise . What a mess . Again #R4today

Yes, it was vile stuff 🫣

Me too . I have a lasting memory of dabbing Calamine lotion on my body and trying desperately not to scratch particularly at night

The last party Leader I can recall being as tetchy/thin skinned as this with respected, mainstream journalists was Jeremy Corbyn.

Exactly, amazes me that they are allowed a free pass on this .

Reform are playing the BBC and Sky like a fiddle . Hour long party political broadcasts dressed up as “news conferences”.

Tomorrow at 11am “Shadow Chancellor” aka finance spokesman Honest Bob gets to present his “strategy for government”

Yes but non graduates wouldn’t welcome the massive increase in taxes that would be required to fund it . Or alternatively the cuts to other public services

Bet Stephen Kinnock is delighted to be the one who drew the short straw to do the media round this am . He’s actually doing well in v difficult circumstances #r4today

Must be very tempting for any decent hardworking Labour (or Tory) councillor who didn’t think they were facing an election in 3 months time, but are now expecting to lose to
the appalling populist hard right Reform/hard left Greens, to just throw in the towel #r4today

I actually think the original plans were sensible, what is infuriating is that it’s yet another u-turn.

Why didn’t they check and double check the legal situation first ?

Extraordinary

Look, it’s perfectly appropriate to criticise Labour, I do myself, but to go off on a deranged, ignorant rant about them being “far right” or “fascist” just makes you look
unhinged and uneducated .

You have a great day my friend 👍😉
February 16, 2026 at 10:11 AM
If you seriously and honestly think that Labour is a “far right wing party” (treat yourself to some books on politics), then you’re really going to be shocked by the Reform government that you’re determined to help to power in 2029.

Enjoy !

They look and sound like Labours version of the ERG or “Brexit Spartans”
February 16, 2026 at 9:01 AM
Starmer is right to raise defence spending to 3% by 2029.

This will however cost circa £15 billion a year, equivalent to 2p on income tax. Or significant cuts to public spending. The small
welfare cuts Starmer u-turned on last year would only have raised £ 5 billion pa.

Hard choices #r4today
