Kilgreany Cave, Dungarvan Valley: Artist interpretation of a #Waterford Neolithic (4000BC -2500BC) burial. The female, over 25, suffered a traumatic jaw injury, possibly from a projectile, with chronic infection, rare direct evidence of Neolithic conflict. #IrishArchaeology

Delighted that I’ve been accepted to the MA in Gaelic Literature & Culture at UCC starting September! I’ve long loved Irish sagas, mythology & manuscripts & now I get to study them properly. So excited to delve in. Expect lots of posts on myth, folklore & ancient texts over the next two years! 📚✨

I’ve always been fascinated by keening the ancient vocal lament once heard at funerals in Ireland and Scotland.

This 1950s recording,m, is the first I’ve heard. It’s not what I expected, rhythmic, haunting &unexpectedly beautiful. #Folklore #Keening
