Way to much red on this map. Western fire season could be crazy this year unless some of this deficit gets made up soon!

Good news for new year! This paper is the Editor's Pick for the Jan 1st issue of @phytopathology.bsky.social! Great collaboration w/ Luz Serrato-Diaz who was a Visiting Graduate Fellow in 2019 working with myself & @microbiojess.bsky.social at ORNL on RADseq analyses of this important pathogen

Why do I not feel happy?

The preprint for a new study is now available on biorxiv! Day late for #worldsoilday, but out none the less! Stands of Populus trees were studied over the steep temp/rainfall gradients of the Cascade Mts of Washington State to understand their effects on microbial interactions

Stealing idea from another on here. In honor of #worldsoilday, reposting my first paper. Was just talking with an intern today about the ancient TA cloning/sanger sequencing techniques we used back then, but I've basically doing the same research for over two decades now!

I have a standing search from google for ORNL research stories. This one lit up my feed today :( Unfortunately my unofficial guess is that 12% probably cost even more in energy than the humans would!

Just pulled out my plots/sensors from Oregon on Wychus Creek the week before last. Last night 1 of those sites looks to have burned (top center circle) in Flat Fire, and fire is approaching another site just decommissioned at Camp Polk (bottom left circle) and outskirts of Sisters OR.

And on the 6th day the lord created Illumina, and he said, “Damn, that craps expensive!”
Legend says the ancient Babylonians once tried to sequence and annotate God's own genome, and for their ambition and hubris they were forever cursed to have different annotation formats and standards so they could never do genomics with ease again.
