Our Director David Rowland writes for the LSE policy blog on why the NHS market regulations are allowing private equity companies to make huge sums from the NHS by providing cataract surgery and ADHD services, potentially at the expense of patients more in need. blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandp...
How privatising ADHD diagnosis robs the NHS of resources | LSE British Politics

Using CHPI's calculator, our local BSW ICB shown to have spent £4,391,740 on 5 eye care firms, with £1,301,556 of #NHS income going to private profits.
Please read the report & find out how much NHS money drains into the profits of private eye care in your local area, then write to your ICB &/or MP
If there was no profit leakage from the contracts with NHS private eye care companies, NHS ICBs collectively would move from a £109m deficit to a £60m surplus.

PFI vs PF Eye? Our research shows that outsourced NHS eye care services leaks the same amount of profit in one year as all 100 NHS PFI schemes. From a public finance scandal it is bigger than PFI. Find out how much leaks out in your local area here: chpi.org.uk/the-outsourcin…

Under rules introduced by Lansley reforms and built on by successive Govts, companies don't need contracts with NHS areas. Coupled with optometrist referrals it's an ideal model to "drive patient flow" to their clinics. @chpithinktank.bsky.social found 84k ops done without contracts in 3yrs

The idea that using the private sector adds genuine additional capacity to support the NHS is "utter nonsense" says our Director David Rowland. The private sector is entirely reliant on NHS doctors to do any operations. Without them it would collapse overnight www.theguardian.com/society/2025...
