Not Open Yet

I loved wandering through La Boca. This place wasn't open yet--but the door itself was irresistible. (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2025)

The Beauty of Doors

There are moments on a street when the simple doorway of a home or business makes you stop and admire the space. (Segovia, Spain, 2024)

A Quiet Traveler

I was moving around taking photos when a tourist stopped me and pointed at my shoe. This one had decided that my shoelace was a good place to ride from. I managed to gently shoo it away and continue on my work. (Iguazú Falls, Argentina, 2025)

Winter Beach

Took a walk today on the beach along Lake Michigan. The ice dunes mark the water line. They are unsafe to go on, but beautiful to look at. (Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, 2026)

Los Nombres

I was walking with others and shooting the murals as I could--didn't have time to pause and look at them. I shot this, but didn't pay attention at the time. In the quiet of my office this morning I paused and looked at the names of the fallen bomberos from La Boca and remembered them.…

The Weather Broke Here

My friends Michael and Cristan had come to visit me in Iceland. It was a truly Icelandic visit, because the weather was "Icelandic" and my friends were "all in" as we maneuvered in the countryside, with the wind and rain. (Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, 2024)

Clear Sky, Clear Walk

Walking along Harbor Park is usually lovely. This cold day in January there was no wind, lots of sun, and great views up the Lakeshore. Didn't know it would be my last winter living along the Lake. (Kenosha, Wisconsin 2014)

The mid-afternoon sun backlit me as I shot photos down the black beach below. This is one of my favorite photos from that trip because I had fallen earlier in the week and smashed and scraped my face (pretty ugly) and you can't see this here. (Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland, 2024)

There is actually no problem with them. I joked with an Icelandic friend once that it seems that everywhere you turn around "there is ANOTHER beautiful waterfall!" I described this once as "beauty fatigue." Kirkjufellsfoss is a prime example. It is a stunning little waterfall, dwarfed by other falls in Iceland and in this case not facing one of the most photographed mountains in the country (Kirk You have to "turn around" from the site to get a shot of this. Still one of my favorites. (Grundarfjörður, Iceland, 2024)
