Kind of shy. Opinionated and dorky.

Dehumanizing language precedes dehumanizing policy. Some words became socially unacceptable because they were associated with inhumane practices. Resist them seeping back into the daily lexicon

I heard what sounded like a dog’s squeaky toy in my back yard. It was two hawks (Cooper’s Hawks?) hanging out and eating a large rodent with a long tail. A first for me, but it seems they are fairly common in the Vancouver area.

First they came for Venezuela, but I did nothing, because I am not Venezuelan…

I’m still thinking about the Lilith Fair doc. It presents a very clear story about identity politics from 30 years ago, when radio stations refused to play more than 1 woman artist in a rotation and the industry was much more racially segregated. 1/2
I just watched the Lilith Fair doc on CBC. When the festival was running I was barely aware of it, living on the outer reaches of the continent without much news or internet. The doc is great. And despite Lilith Fair being from another century, it’s so relevant to today. Worth a watch

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a fun romp, but also feels like a sanitized version of a Bob Fosse musical. Fosse would have dialled up the sleaze past 11

Sunday morning SOBBING. About to head to East Africa and will be bringing this incredible woman’s messages with me in full. I so sorry she had to die.
Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

Having crazy neighbours with an unhinged military is not good, right? 🍁
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

It’s become very hard to trust the impartiality of any news coming out of the USA. They’ve been trained to comply or perish.

So when are countries that are not the USA going to start pushing back on the authoritarian regime there? I have bills to pay just like every other adult, but honestly, some things are more important than the economy.

Can’t say I love learning that the political movements I find disgusting are considered ‘moderate’ in some circles. Generally I like to understand the world I live in, but maybe there are ideas I’m better off being unaware of.

Charlie’s most (read only) redeeming quality was his insistence on the release of the Epstein files. I certainly hope that this had nothing to do with his assassination, but it certainly eliminated a vocal advocate for it’s release. Fascists eat their own.

Maybe they do things differently in the US, but I just can’t think of any violent tendencies in the political left. Sure, they may subject you to purity tests, lecture you, and potentially exclude you. Maybe they’ll hurt your feelings pointing out your biases. Violence is not really their thing.

A fun thing to remember on Labour Day is that Mark Carney eliminated the Cabinet role Minister of Labour, a position that had existed for more than a century under governments of all stripes, and Canada is currently without a labour minister for the first time since 1909.

I love autumn. It’s my favourite season. So why am I feeling so depressed about the end of summer and all the fun things I didn’t do this year because it was too hot or crowded? (I detest heat and crowds)

What if we acknowledge both things are true: in-person collaboration and basic interaction is good for us (not just for employers and business but socially - yes, even for introverts) AND 5 day in-office work week is difficult to manage and sustain (both on infrastructure/services and socially)?
