Luck and privilege. As a poor white kid growing up in Ireland, I still had opportunities that black and brown kids in the same system did not have. This is why racism thrives in times of economic hardship, because poor white people see themselves being treated in the same way as black people.
I was born into an unjust system, I have managed to, pretty much, succeed in that system, mostly through good luck.
I do not want the success of others to be down to luck. I do not want to die in the same unjust system that I was born into.
