because using generative ai in politics only breeds distrust in reality
Pinned
generative ai imagery has no place in our politics. it breeds distrust in reality. in what’s true.

and truth is the cornerstone of our democracy.

we’ll be monitoring and sounding the alarm when we see officials, candidates, public figures, and organizations use it. stay tuned.

A major use-case for AI is reality destabilization.
This video, viewed millions of times on TikTok, Facebook and X, claims to show Venezuelans taking to the street to thank the US for detaining Maduro.

But the video is a combination of four AI-generated clips and was first posted on TikTok by a user who frequently shares AI videos. It's not real.

They are all fake and created by an Instagram user who makes and posts generative AI content.

This is an AI-manipulated version of a real video of the US military operation in Venezuela.

While the real clip does appear to be genuine, this specific version has been manipulated using Grok to add dramatic explosions and strikes.

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

regardless of who the source is, ai imagery distorts people’s understanding and trust in what’s real. this only serves the benefit of authoritarians, who rely on disinformation and distrust to wield power.

our approach does not factor right or left: if you use gen ai images, you join the list.
