This is a simple, but educational, puzzle, which may be especially useful if you are new to the study of pawn endgames.

White's winning move was missed by both players, each rated over 2200 FIDE. Can you find it?

The best educational chess content I’ve seen on Bluesky is being posted by IM Ilja Sirosh.

Ilja, I have a suggestion. Add the hashtags #chess and #chesspunks to the first post of each of your threads, so people can find you (chesspunks is an online community of players who are trying to improve).
♟️FISCHER'S SACRIFICE | DAY 18♟️

Today, we explore a MUST-KNOW tactical theme showcased in the legendary Fischer - Reshevsky game. It's an elegant pattern every chess player should recognize.

Black to move

Askelof-Svensson
This position is taken from the excellent book by Charles Hertan, Forcing Chess Moves: The Key to Better Calculation.
I will post the solution in the comments tomorrow.

Here is a mental exercise for you.

Play these opening moves in your head:

1. d4 c5
2. c3 e6
3. Nf3 Nf6
4. Bg5 cxd4
5. cxd4 Qb6
6. Qc1 Ne4

OK, what should White play now?

I’ll post the answer in the comments later today.

In honor of Humpy Koneru's victory in the Women's World Rapid Chess Championship, here is a nifty Mate-in-4 that she found in Norway Chess back in March.

What is Black's best move?

Does it give Black a clear advantage, or can White keep the fight going?

This tactic is a variant of Anastasia’s Mate, an elegant checkmating pattern involving a rook and a knight. The mating pattern was included in the book Anastasia und das Schachspiel (Anastasia and the Game of Chess), written by Wilhelm Heinse and published in 1803.

Great puzzle! The first move was easy to find, but after one of White’s possible replies, it took me a while to understand how Black wins. What I think is the best line for White is surprising and elegant.
I’ll post the line I like in the replies.
