Anybody know if a University of Chicago economist who wasn't even in the government at the time wrote almost half of the regulatory impact analysis for EPA's endangerment/car rules draft repeal? Because it sure looks like he did. Signal jchemnick.01.

White House wrote half of EPA’s cost-benefit analysis for climate rule rollback
The move — revealed in emails and internal drafts — sidelined EPA's deep bench of career economists.

EPA still has a "walking around money" left over in fy 2026. But it's choosing to furlough some people while others remain on the job and drawing a paycheck. It appears to be keeping those working on deregulation and other priorities. @ellieborst.bsky.social and I: www.eenews.net/articles/epa...

EPA's removal of the endangerment finding for greenhouse gas emissions (starting with vehicles) could increase state regulation of other sources. @adamaton.bsky.social and my piece : www.eenews.net/articles/epa...
EPA’s climate rollback squeezes states
States will have few options for fighting local air pollution if EPA repeals federal rules to limit vehicle emissions.

The DOE climate report creates a lot of problems for EPA's endangerment finding for greenhouse gases. It will be interesting to see if EPA uses it in the final, or if decides to just double down on legal arguments:

DOE climate report could create problems for EPA
The agency may need to ditch its scientific justification for repealing the endangerment finding that underpins most climate rules.

EPA is moving fast to finalize its repeal of the 2009 endangerment finding for greenhouse gases and tailpipe emissions rules. Internal notes and slides show options for the final rule will be selected this week and next. Public comment closed Monday.

The oil and gas industry didn't expect EPA to suspend its greenhouse gas reporting, and for the most part it doesn't see it doing the sector any favors. I focus mostly on challenges it could create for gas exports to the E.U., but there are other issues. www.eenews.net/articles/epa...

EPA seems poised to use (at least) two separate strategies to tackle GHG endangerment: taking on the 2009 finding itself, and trying to argue that power plant emissions aren't a "significant" contributor to public endangerment.
