The ‘bel’ in ‘decibel’ is for Alexander Graham Bell.

Since the ‘B’ in 'dB' is a name-derived unit, it is capitalized when abbreviated.

SO glad my universes are colliding! Graham's pick of the week for @smashingsecurity.com E453 is We Are Lady Parts.

Such a phenomenal show. Can't wait for the third series, because the first two were amazing!

'Taxi' and 'cab' essentially mean the same thing, but 'cab' doesn't come from 'taxicab.'

It comes from ‘cabriolet,’ which was a type of light carriage.

‘Taxi’ comes from ‘taximeter,’ which is the device that calculates the amount of a fare based on the distance traveled.

A month ago, I had an issue with this route. OC Transpo fixed it. And then the schedule for my connecting bus was changed.

Chapter 2 of this #OttTransit saga in the comments of my original post.

Hoping for a resolution @helps.octranspo.com!
Hey @helps.octranspo.com, it seems there is something wrong with the scheduling of the 48 Carleton (dep 06:07).

Last Monday it was cancelled (only after sked departure), but it's never on time on Mondays. I always miss my connecting bus.

It's dark and cold, and options are infrequent at this hour.

Just saw someone with a @midnightburger.bsky.social sweater in the wild (at ComiCon). While I was catching up on s4 😁

Bringing this back because the detour is back. The roadway at #1569 is so poorly/not really plowed that buses can't pull into the curb cut. I walked 5 steps ON HERON ROAD to get on an overcrowded 88.

Many cancellations + 90 Hurdman not stopping there... bad combo.

@helps.octranspo.com
I left work on Nov 26 using my normal bus stop (6900) and was quite surprised to find out that there was a change and no alert.

This detour hasn't ended yet.

(To add: it would be great if the 90 Hurdman could add #1569 as a temporary stop, as the distance btwn the regular stops is quite far (2/3)

Hey @helps.octranspo.com, could you explain why this bus was 6 mins early and didn't take a timed stop?

Not great for the people who will show up expecting the bus hasn't passed yet.

The 'kin' of ‘napkin’ means "little."

‘Nap’ comes from ‘nape,' which means “tablecloth.”

So a napkin is a little tablecloth.

10/10, no notes.

Two weeks ago I spent the whole day at the Museum of the Moving Image to listen to New Yorkers. This is what Liam shared with me.

I cited actual Kirk quotes where he calls Black women less intelligent, demonizes me for being Muslim, & dehumanizes LGBTQ people—& his supporters are upset at me for “speaking evil of the dead.”

If quoting him is “speaking evil” maybe ask yourself why you followed someone who believed evil things.

New Mexico's economy is a fraction of the size of New York City's.

If they can enact universal childcare — and relieve working families of a crushing cost burden — surely we can too.

It's just a question of political will.
New Mexico will be the first state to make child care free
The program, which is expected to save families $12,000 per child annually, is available to all residents regardless of income.

I said something last week that is more broadly applicable today:

Calling for empathy is not neutral or apolitical when only one group of people have been socialized and brutalized into having empathy.

Hey @octranspo.com, which stop does the 105 St-Laurent depart from at Hurdman?

Signage says "B" but I have seen more than one today stopping at "D" and opening their doors. Easy way for riders to get mixed up and miss the bus!

Haha! Just catching up on @smashingsecurity.com (ep 432, which aired on my 32nd birthday!) and the intro cut to Thom Langford made me laugh out loud because I thought *the thing* before he said it.

Who knew mnemonic could be so funny?

I was overjoyed that Dave Bittner said THE THING for Pick of the Week on the most recent episode of @smashingsecurity.com.

That's a critical instruction we can't forget!

An 11-year-old will be charged the same thing as me, an adult with a full-time job, for a month of transit access?

And you KNOW most of their trips are to school and back. A required destination.

The youth pass was already too expensive; children should be able to afford to take the bus.

This (as usual) is a great episode.

I'm glad I've followed @smashingsecurity.com from the very beginning & if you don't want to be sad, start at episode 1 and enjoy almost a decade of informative content and laughs.

Carole & @grahamcluley.com are worth the hundreds of hours of listens, I promise!
The women-only dating safety app Tea leaks over 70,000 private images, ID docs, private DMs, and a dash of 4chan creepiness. Yikes.

Plus, Carole takes us down memory lane as she hangs up her co-host mic after 428 glorious episodes. Expect tea, tears, and Tom Lehrer
