historians call us best friends
Why did Pluto and Charon become best friends?

They didn’t planet.

Happy #ArtAdventCalendar day 3. Here is some #sciart I did a while back. A big acrylic on canvas painting that shows when the New Horizons spacecraft did a flyby of Pluto and one of its moons. Good times had by all! Click to zoom in for details.

you only believe other "planets" in our "solar system exist because you're easily fooled by propaganda. once you understand that the "planets" are just projections projected against the dome around earth keeping your mind small and within the ice wall, you will never go back. awaken you're mind

After calling them out as content scrapers I have been blocked by @nasauniverse.bsky.social @nasahubblenews.bsky.social and @marscuriosity.bsky.social

All three blocked me in the span of two minutes, confirming
they are scrapers and probably run by the same person.
Two aggregator accounts that should be promptly unfollowed and added to do-not-follow lists for promoting AI-generated content as real.

If you want more real space content I can highly recommend these starter packs of scientists and hobbyists posting high quality space content:
bsky.app/profile/stim...
Instead, I invite you to follow and support people who create original content, which is much higher quality and more diverse than what you see on scraper accounts.

I talked about the wonderful little moons of Neptune, and they're all very adorable, but how can I go without mentioning our own little moons? This will be a thread of at least 4.

4 moons: Nix, Hydra, Styx, and Kerberos

Neptune's moons are what's known as second generation moons- moons catapulted into orbit after the destruction of the first generation. Sent into chaos after the capture of Triton, they crashed into each other or their planet; their remains the little, peculiar Neptunian moons of today. 1/2

In January 2025, a rare planetary alignment will occur, with six planets visible, and Mercury joining briefly to make it seven. Starting January 21 after sunset, you can spot Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn with the naked eye, while a telescope will reveal Neptune and Uranus.

The planets orbit the Sun at different speeds, with the inner planets moving the fastest—they need to, to resist being pulled in by the Sun's gravity.

Here's a side-by-side comparison (race?) of their velocities!

Why isn't a day on Earth 24 hours? I've got an animation for that too: bsky.app/profile/inte...
What's a Sidereal day? Earth completes one full rotation relative to distant stars in 23 hours 56 minutes—this is a Sidereal Day. But, because of Earth's orbital motion, the Sun appears to shift position each day. To align with the Sun again, Earth needs an extra 4 mins, making a Solar Day 24 hours:

Oh Sedna, how I miss you, friend,
A cosmic outcast none defend.
The Sun’s faint glow, a fleeting flame,
Calls softly through the void you claim.
