It's always disheartening to see so many on the beach, but we're glad to see the issue coming up more in the news recently spreading awareness of the problems plaguing our beaches and waterways.

A big shout out to the school groups and public who have helped us get started on filling our nurdle tube for the third time! That's over 5000 nurdles and biobeads collected just this month that have been littering our beaches, thank you for all your help! #MarineMonday

The belemnite marls that do yield many of the belemnites and crinoids we get in Charmouth are approximately 190 million years old.

Well done to the 30 people who braved the wet and wild weather on our fossil walk today. 3 ichthyosaur bones were found and HollyandtheHerd found this tiny crinoid star tucked in the end of a belemnite! #FossilFind

Just a couple of weeks until Christmas trees start going up! We can't help but think these crochet Jurassic nautili and ammonites are a great way to add a bit of Charmouth to the decorations! Available in the Centre or message us to purchase yours (real ammonites not included!).

Shout out to Akbar who found this rare piece of fossil chimaera tooth plate on last weekends's fossil walk! Chimeras are shark-like fish, with teeth designed for crushing and grinding their shelly prey. #FossilFriday

You don't need to hammer to find fossils here, most are loose on the beach already. Though there are a few rocks that if you know what to look for do need a bit of persuasion revealing their treasure!
November 16, 2025 at 5:42 PM
It's a beautiful day but the tides aren't great for fossil hunting. Drop by the Centre instead to see our incredible fossil displays like our newest ichthyosaur, Enzo, all loaned to us by the amazing collectors on our beaches!
November 15, 2025 at 11:03 AM
Not a bad find for a stroll along the beach! This crinoid slab was discovered a couple of days ago by one of our volunteers and it won't need much work, just look at all those tentacley arms! Maybe after the wet weekend there'll be more like this about #FossilFriday

It gets tons of use from children of all ages (5 or 55 we've seen you all using it!) so our sandpit definitely needed some touching up for yesterday's work party day. It's all set for the weekend now so even if the weather's not great you can fossil hunt in the dry!

Thanks to Nigel Clarke for kick-starting our Friends winter talks series this evening! It felt very fitting on this wet and stormy night to be talking about shipwrecks of Lyme Bay!

Our next talk is in December. Why not become member: charmouth.org/chcc/product...

A full day with Haywood Primary School's years 3 and 4 on the beach and they did brilliantly. A good fossil hunt to end the day but enduring some squalls this morning on their nurdle hunt, and over 400 microplastics collected! Well done guys!
November 10, 2025 at 3:46 PM
It's the first of our Friends' Winter lecture series on Tuesday! Nigel Clarke will be joining us in the Village Hall at 7pm on Nov 11th talking about the shipwrecks of Lyme Bay.

It's getting to that time of the year where you might need a bit of warming up after some time on the beach, or something to help you brace yourself before it! Hot drinks are available again from the Centre, takeaway only!
November 9, 2025 at 10:01 AM
Yesterday we had Lynton and Karen Parry visit to see their ammonite on display for the first time! The talented pair found the ammonite on Charmouth beach in September, and have kindly loaned it to us for everyone to see.
