Fred Saberhagen: in my berserker series I invented the self replicating murderous berserkers as a cautionary tale

Paris? Brussels? Vienna?

Nope.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Torn down in 1958 I think.

I was really surprised how fun Predator: Badlands was. Great "here is a space story" movie like Riddick or Prospect.

I’m rarely rendered speechless, but then: “Eight State Police members from the Buffalo area, including a sergeant and a lieutenant, were sent to Pittsburgh last month for a two-day assignment to staff the wake and funeral of the stepmother of an asst deputy superintendent.” Brendan Lyons reports.

So at the end of Playdate the one clone is saved by the power of love and the hundreds of other clones are murdered and it's kind of a comedy?

I really love some of Don's books, I think the Winter of Frankie Machine is so well done. What is this and who is it for? Just idiots?

After aggressively disengaging from Foundation season 1 I'm randomly watching some s3 and seems like a show for people who really like Princess Irulan monologues from 80s Dune. I do though.

At the New-York Historical Society last year I was really struck by seeing Nast's Uncle Sam's Thanksgiving Dinner. Such a positive image in 1869.

Odd article in that it never addresses "can the president legally stop penny production?"

I assume Congress has mandated some level of penny production but would love a journalist for a reputable organization, maybe the AP, to check.
After 230 years, the US Mint has ended production of new pennies. One of the very few things that incompetent stopped clock in the White House has gotten accidentally right. [apnews.com]

The U.S. has ended production of the penny. The last 1-cent coins were made Wednesday at the mint in Philadelphia.

I had known the trivia that Justice Jackson was the last Justice not to graduate law school and also the court's best writer, didn't know until this article that not graduating was just a quirk of being too young (20 vs 21)
Our film & local history buff CJ Lais took a deep dive into the life & local ties of Nuremberg prosecutor (& Albany Law grad) Robert H. Jackson, the only person to serve as Supreme Court Justice, US Attorney General & Solicitor General. He's played by Michael Shannon in the new film.
Albany Law grad Robert H. Jackson was chief prosecutor at Nuremberg and plays a supporting role in James Vanderbilt’s movie about the Nazi war crimes trials.

I heard someone mention a FIFA peace prize and I thought that was a pretty good joke. Turns out to be a pretty bad joke.
Trump has threatened to bomb or invade 7 countries with a shot to play in the 2026 World Cup. He *has* bombed one (Iran) and said he'd deny them visas. He's preparing for war with another (Venezuela). He has summarily executed citizens from at least 3. He has imposed tariffs on nearly all of them.
FIFA head says 'you will see' at World Cup draw if Trump receives new peace prize
FIFA has announced the creation of a peace prize, which it plans to award for the first time at the World Cup draw on Dec. 5 in Washington.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I thought the Lost Bus was 25 percent a great movie. Some of the writing and characterization was very thin.

The screenwriters should not have introduced looters on the day though. That part felt as fake as it was.
