I feel like Hasbro keeps chasing the idea that D&D IP is an untapped goldmine. Beholders are nice and all, but they and the other "marketable" parts of D&D are replaceable and will never be the reason I play a game.

One of my favorite things I've written for Greystone Valley is a short Christmas-themed blog entry: screamsheet.wordpress.com/2025/12/05/c...
Christmas in Greystone Valley
Greystone Valley is home to many different holiday celebrations, but few capture the imagination as completely as Christmas does. It is said that the mysterious wizard who created the valley was fr…

Greystone Valley: Meeting Kay
The door creaked open. Sarah gave another groan. She was sure her mother had come into her room unbidden, determined to pull her off to a big breakfast and a busy day. “It’s Sunday,” said Sarah fro…

I'm still working out the details, but I'm probably going to make some cosmetic changes to my website next year.

Although it has changed homes a few times, the Screamsheet has been around since 2000 when I got my first domain on Geocities. The name came from the news sheets in the Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing …

Comics & Quests: Wake of the Realms Master
Since I don’t own copies of the Dragonlance or Spelljammer comics, this entry marks the end of my 1990s D&D comics. While there were other D&D comics over the years, it would take two…

It was a nice run of happy and productive days, but the unexpected death of one of my parakeets has brought my depression back with a roar.

I miss the Forgotten Realms of the 1990s. There were so many stories that occasionally overlapped but were often their own thing, and the world felt huge.

The modern Realms are...okay, but they're mostly, "Let's see what's happening to the marketable characters on the Sword Coast."

I feel like most parenting advice boils down to "talk to your kids," but it's really good advice.

I have 150 pages of setting material for my homebrew Pathfinder setting. Naturally, my players don't read it, nor do I expect them to. As a result, stuff from Golarion seeps into my setting.

Most recently, Desna now exists in my world, but as an empyreal lord rather than a full goddess.

I confess that I often call them Doctor Who instead of the Doctor as a bit of a troll to folks who take that seriously.

But also, both the First and Second Doctors called themselves Doctor Who.

Due to some bad blood on the business end, the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons comic ended in 1991. But at least it tied up all the loose ends nicely.

My dream for the next Doctor Who TV story: the Doctor has to save Rose as her universe collapses because the Master activated the Moment (in its Bad Wolf incarnation). Billie Piper gets a hat trick of playing the Doctor, the companion, and the villain.

I remember a big flap when D&D and Pathfinder stopped doing slavery plots. Reading through old adventures, I think it was a good move, and not just from a sensitivity POV.

The sheer number of adventures that used slavery to move the plot got ridiculous. It became lazy, but they kept doing it.
