I heard: sure everything’s IP, remakes, returning series & big names BUT if you’re doing something truly original you might still break thru.

The planned 'The Birds' TV show also got a shout-out as SXSW London brought together Surian Fletcher-Jones of Working Title Television, Heyday Television's Sue Gibbs and Carnival Films' Noemi Spanos.

Equal parts "Grr" and "Hmm". Interesting though to read the BBC's reply to the article. The BBC's new comedy line-up is full of white men - we've gone back in time #comedy #tvwriter inews.co.uk/culture/tele...

Bad news: Buyers playing safe, other genres are hotter now.
Good: UK’s warming to writers' rooms & comedy has the long tail. When it hits, it runs.

Inspired by the ingenuity and talent of #NoahDavis. Wonderful artist, gone too soon. Made a museum of art from everyday items when the establishment turned him down. My learning? Stick to your vision. #BarbicanCentre #holdtheline #artistinspiration #builditandtheywillcome

Hands down, one of the most rewarding parts of writing is… procrastination.
Gifted at elaborate distraction, I’ve made it an art form.
It takes fortitude to face a blank page and even more to walk away… for a second coffee.
Now I’ve written this post, I’ve earned it. Veeeery good!

Dear Mr. Chatterton, 146 years after “Shakespeare Spelt Ruin,” Jamie Lloyd’s Much Ado is doing a roaring trade for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and it’s a corker! All’s Well That Ends Well! #MuchAdoAboutNothing #Shakespeare

Picked up this nugget from London Screenwriters' Festival at Steve Kaplan’s session The Comic Hero’s Journey. When a reader or exec notes “faster, louder, funnier,” they really mean they're not connecting with the character or the world. Brings a new dimension to rewriting. @skcomedy.bsky.social

As a producer/production manager, I’m all about order and efficiency.
As a writer? That mindset kills the fun.
Nothing worse than a great idea followed by a mental list of why it won’t work.
Here’s my challenge:
Channel John Cleese.
Play first. Judge later. #johncleese

Aaaargh, rookie mistake! When applying for screenwriting competitions check the word count. I wrote 499 words when the limit was 100. It took me 2 hours to write the 499 words and 4 hours to cut it down to 100. #Rats

Leave your ego at the door and put the show at the heart of everything you do in the room. Great advice from
@AnnaJordan of WAPTheatre about writer's room etiquette. Improv tools like #YesAnd also go a long way in the room. Thanks @ginalyons.bsky.social for hosting a great session!

I wonder how many drafts it takes to write the Oscars Host monologue and remarks ... and how many lawyers? I think Conan did a good job of walking the funny vs. offensive tightrope and keeping a looong night pretty entertaining.

My current watchlist of UK comedies.

Big Boys (hoping against hope it won’t end in tears)
The Change(got to this one late)
Kaos (gutted it was cancelled)
Spent (relatable)

And very very excited for Small Town, Big Story!

Wonder what someone would surmise from these picks?

Call me a pollyanna but my no-doubt naive takeaway from this interview with neuroscientist Prof Christopher Summerfield is: if AI can’t cope with multi-tasking & randomness, two of my specialities, then I have nothing to worry about, yet! ⁦@ben_machell⁩ ⁦@thetimes⁩
