Featuring our very own Dr @jasmineleighb.bsky.social as Star Scientist! 🌟👩🏻‍🔬

Read up on all the awesome work that she’s been up to!
Star Scientist Dr @jasmineleighb.bsky.social is on a mission to prevent and reverse obesity by unlocking the power of NAD+ - a molecule that helps our cells turn food into energy. Her work could pave the way for new approaches to tackling metabolic and heart disease risk.:
Star Scientist - Dr Jasmine Banks

Started off the week in Perth at the Australian & New Zealand Obesity Society Annual Meeting presenting my work on novel ceramide synthases & their anti-obesogenic effects.

Had a great time at ANZOS and exploring Rottsnest Island, home to the extremely friendly and fluffy quokkas!

Our group leader Prof Nigel Turner was interviewed for the Guardian earlier this week, discussing the hype and hope for NAD+ boosters as anti-ageing therapeutics. Read what he (and our collaborator A/Prof Lindsay Wu) had to say about it here: www.theguardian.com/australia-ne... 🧪
NAD boosters: Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber are into them, but do they actually stop ageing? | Antiviral
Despite social media hype, there is little evidence that the therapies, marketed as pills, shots and IV infusions, have any effects on ageing
