In a lecture on Monday, we discussed AI in mass media. AI is becoming a bigger part of our lives every day. It is hard for AI to get behind the emotional aspect of journalism that humans bring to the table. But my question is, will AI completely replace journalists in the future?

In the lecture, we talked about deplatforming. Social media platforms remove a person's access to an account and/or the account altogether. We discussed that this is not a violation of free speech. Why do you think that is?

In the lecture this week we talked about how many people have high political knowledge but low trust in the government. Why do you think this is? How common is it to have this belief?

In this week's first reading, I learned a lot about centrism. This bias doesn't favor the left or right but leans toward moderate, middle-ground solutions. It assumes that the best solutions are somewhere between the far left and far right. What are the benefits of this bias?

News deserts are areas that do not have media coverage. How does this impact the citizens and how they form political opinions? Do they have biases?

In class this week, we discussed the negative effects of US television. People overestimate crime statistics, believe in more traditional roles for females, and are less likely to know environmental issues. Have you seen television impacting the way you view the world?

I thought our lecture today about how ads motivate us was interesting. When I pay more attention to ads, a lot of them show the bonus piece of an "Act Now." If it's a clothes store, they will say "Buy One Get One Free" or get one 50% off.

Alarm mode is when something exciting happens, and the news reports it. Patrol mode is when journalists already have an intention to cover regular things. Ongoing media coverage. Do you think "patrol mode" is what's made the news so unpopular? #UWJ201 #306

We read two articles this week discussing who owns the news. The news we are exposed to is controlled by who owns the platforms. If we can flip through many different channels with the same opinions, how will this prevent us from forming biased beliefs?

Our phones cater to the things we are interested in. When you google a subject, related ads will start popping up on our social media platforms. Many people feel violated by this, but I'm grateful my ads entertain me. Would you want to see ads that don't interest you at all? #UWJ201 #306
