I can’t be the only one blown away by the fact that a mere 30 years ago the left fought the fight that so-called “Trumpists” are fighting.

Trumpists got people to stop trusting media. Then they made them stop trusting scientists. They went after legal and judicial systems, federal agencies, military leadership. They undermined trust in economists, education and close allies.

It was the pope's reaction against Islamic imperialism during the mddle ages. You can look at it however you like, but I don't think Europe would have ever had an enlightenment if Muhammad and his successors had not been kicked back at the battle of Tours.
