Can a Hydroelectric Dam Really Make the Days Longer?
By shifting water to a higher elevation, the giant Three Gorges Dam caused the Earth to spin more slowly.

What jobs were the tamale vendors taking, Greg?
Get out of my city.
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

Last show of this visit and it was lovely. A cute rom-com that is exactly about what its title says. Loads of laughs, creative staging and sets, and an original story and music. 👍

Also today: every trip’s “something new” (to me). There have been several this trip! Today I visited the Tenement Museum (so so interesting- I will definitely be back) and the Museum of Broadway (so so *much* - I don’t need to revisit)

Matinee today. Its excellence made up for last night’s ick. James Corden was especially wonderful.

Cracks me up that all of the NYC buses say “Fare Required” - assume that’s bc new mayor hasn’t even been sworn in yet?

Credit where credit’s due: the crew of my extremely delayed ORD-LGA flight this afternoon were outstanding - from the cockpit to the cabin. Thanks for making a sucky situation much better.

Welp. Knew it was all going way too smoothly. Once we all boarded, Capt comes on to make us all deplane for a 2.5 hour LGA weather delay. Time for a little day drinkin

You think Dem voters would have turned out in the numbers, and with the enthusiasm, they did JUST FIVE DAYS AGO if they thought the party was going cave like this? Jesus

I just left another email for @durbin.senate.gov asking him to just retire now so we can have someone representing us who actually understands the assignment.

👇🏻
Durbin is trash. Yes, lots of great stuff in the past. Sure he’s a decent guy. But he’s pure trash now. Important to see that the bulk of Team Cave is made up of people who are retiring.
Durbin is a YES on this deal: “At Democrats’ urging, today’s bill is not the same one we’ve voted down 14 times. Republicans finally woke up and realized their Groundhog Day needed to end. This bill is not perfect, but it takes important steps to reduce their shutdown’s hurt.”

Durbin needs to go. Now.
Durbin voting to advance the new GOP deal to end the shutdown. Retiring No. 2 Democrat. Schumer, his former roommate, is a no.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

I’m so mad not even a new season of Maine Cabin Masters is helping

💯
I will not only blame the Senate Democrats who are caving. I will blame them all. They needed to keep their ranks in order. If this happens, it's the most spineless political retreat imaginable and it will harm millions upon millions of Americans. Chickenshit, self-neutering nonsense. Cowards.

If @durbin.senate.gov is voting for this then his retirement needs to be moved up to tomorrow. What a complete disappointment he is.
